News MAY 2009

Ok so here’s a catch up on what’s happened so far this year.
We had a social breakfast at Eves Restaurant on the river on Feb 22nd, about 13 of us attended and shared in a great venue although the table setting was a bit squeezy, after that the thirsty ones proceeded on to Southbank for a visit to some drinking establishments, the hour and a half wait we suffered waiting for the city cat and getting sun burnt meant we were like human sponges. I can’t remember anything after that, (oh dear )

The web site was hacked and a virus was embedded into the opening page and so we were banned from Google until ,with some help, we located the offending script and re-established order it took about a week before Google would let us be friends again.

March 29th we had gradings some people were from affiliate Dojos and I’m sorry I don’t recall who you were but congrats to you and congrats to these people from Brisbane Dojo
Tamara Shorter    1st Kyu
Jo Thomas          4th Kyu
Daniel Wheeler    5th Kyu
Chris Mills           5th Kyu
Neil  Jones          5th Kyu
The next event was a weekend training seminar at the Warwick Dojo on ANZAC weekend 25 & 26 April .Chris Sensei led the classes and Patricio and Bruce attended from the Brisbane Dojo as usual the hospitality was splendid at Ross and Kathy’s, THANK YOU.

May 16th – 17th Andrew Williamson Sensei seminar
What a great week end of training, 6 hours on Saturday, 4 hours on Sunday. Andrew Sensei has many years of experience although he is a young 6th Dan and it showed in the relaxed power of his technique. The many years of training with Japanese instructors has rubbed off in his teaching style and posture including the way he describes what he is doing. Andrew Sensei was respectful to the style of technique we have learned under Sugano Shihan and showed us some alternative ways of looking at the basics. All in all it was an inspiring week end. THANKS ANDREW

News December 2008

Well another year draws to a close and I would like to thank all of the students that have attended the training and seminars during to year.

Recently we had the privilage of having the the wizard David Brown Sensei 6th dan for a one day event ( taking time out from his visit to see his new grandchild ) as usual his style and understandings of Aikido leave us slightly bewildered but inspired.

He informs us that he is having a much needed hip replacement operation on the 9th of December, we all wish him the best of luck and a speedy recovery. Our club is having a whip around for any donations that can help him on his feet financially, if you want to contribute contact me at the email address on the front page by the middle of December.

We just had our last grading day of the year, the training was well supported and Congratulations to Fergus McCartan 5th kyu, Peter Spry 3rd kyu and Trent Krammel 2nd kyu. Well done! thanks to the people that came to the bbq afterwards.

XMAS BREAK

We will be closed for a break between Christmas and New Year

Last training on Sunday 21st December
First training day back Sunday 4th January

Next year we will be seperating the Iaido and Jodo from our club. we will still be holding the Friday night classes but as this training is with the QLD KENDO RENMAI organisation we have to divide it off as a seperate entity so training will remain the same but the training fee will be changed to $10.00 per class or whatever David Kolb Sensei deems an appropriate combined Iai / Jodo fee to be

Thank you for you attendance through out the year and best wishes for the festive season.

News August 2008

This report is by Chris Sensei

Winter School was great. Nice location, 3 hot meals per day, training 4 times a day with lots of different people and a chance to train with a master who has around 50 years experience. Awesome!!Highlights :- -

Georgie’s grading – very flowing, good weapon work and she did it with a smile on her face

-Lyford copying D.B’s gait and mimicking Sugano Sensei’s seated posture whilst accepting his grading certificate (due to his knee injury from a motorcycle accident)

-Cake, fruit, hot food and drinks provided between classes

-A flock Cockatoo’s sitting around the entrance to the dining area

-The party night dancing

- Oh yeah and clear and focused lessons from Sugano Sensei

Now let’s see, all the changes to the constitution went ahead unopposed. This means yearly membership are now $200.

That’s $100 to AikiKai and $100 to the foundation.

We have got approval for Winter School 2010 to be hosted at Tallebudgera. So this means more Qld students can experience the school.

You need to attend Summer and Winter schools as part of the Dan grade requirements.

John Watson Sensei will be taking a TTC course at Brisbane on the 16th and 17th of August.

Bob Botterill Sensei will be taking a TTC course at Warwick on the 13th and 14th of September

Dave Brown Sensei possibly in early November (depends on hip operation).

TTC Courses are required for Dan gradings ( if you have a few in your book it is easier for me handing in the grading applications)

That’s enough for now

Enjoy your training
